Principal's Message

Happy New Year and welcome back!  We are so proud of all the things that our students were able to accomplish during the Fall semester and are looking forward to even more accomplishments during the Spring semester.

We are the Lillian Street Eagles! Our motto this year is to Soar Above the Rest.  Based on our current data, the progress that students are making, and the support of our parents and community partners we are well on our way of bringing our motto to fruition.  Additionally, our teachers and support staff are the best at what they do, focused on ensuring that all of our students are college prepared and career ready.

Lillian's Afterschool Program

Lillian Elementary offers two afterschool programs for our students.  Both programs are open from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. and focus on academic enrichment and physical/recreation fitness.  Applications are in the office.

  • YDP is for students in grades K-6.  Parents must pick students up from this program daily.
  • YS Playground program is for students in grades 2-6.  Students may walk home from the program daily.

Curriculum New for the 2017-2018 School Year

In the coming year we will continue with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards.  The new standards are being used throughout the United States to prepare our students for college and careers.  With the Common Core Standards there is a bog focus on informational reading and writing as well as opinion writing.  Lillian Street School will also continue with Professional Development with trainers from Columbia Teachers College, helping all our teachers learn more and more about teaching reading and writing.  We will be holding parent workshops in all grade levels to show you ways you can make sure your child reads at home to practice reading strategies and become a strong, thinking reader.  All students will have reading logs and leveled books at their independent reading level to use daily at home. Research tells us that all students need a minimum of one hour of reading time each day for each year they are in school to be ready for college.  Every day is important to make sure that our students do not fall behind.  Also in the new school year we will continue with our math program called "My Math" which is aligned to the Common Core Standards.
